Populus specializes in high performance, net-zero and near-net-zero custom residential and multi-family projects. While we work on projects nationally, Populus is the only RESNET Accredited Home Energy Rating Provider based in Boulder, Colorado and we are a privately-owned, local small business. Our company is deeply rooted locally and we strive to support economic and environmental sustainability in our community.

Our secret to success is that we love what we do. Our Work With Architects and Builders

Drawing from a background in architecture and building science, Populus guides architects and builders through the requirements of mandatory green building codes, providing energy modeling, HERS Rating and high performance consulting services. We have worked on hundreds of high-performance single family and multi-family projects throughout the West. In addition, Populus leverages its expertise in green building certification programs, such as LEED for Homes™ and ENERGY STAR™ to provide client-focused project coordination and consulting services.

Our Work With Municipal Governments

Populus has worked with municipalities throughout the West to design and implement residential energy efficiency programs for both new construction and existing homes to assist municipalities in meeting their climate action goals. From designing and analyzing above-code residential energy programs to designing the nation's first performance-based residential code for rental housing, Populus has the expertise and on-the-ground experience to assist.
