The American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (“ASHRAE”) recently unveiled the prototype of an energy labeling system for buildings.  The labeling system, called the Building Energy Quotient program (“Building EQ”), includes asset and operational ratings for all types of buildings, with the exception of residential.

Bill Harrison, President of ASHRAE, commented on the timing of Building Energy EQ’s release: “With labeling mandatory in Europe and disclosure of a building’s energy performance becoming required by several states, now is the time to introduce a label that can serve as a model for mandatory programs. ASHRAE’s introduction of its prototype labeling program couldn’t be better-timed.”
