
For years, David has been at the forefront of the high performance home industry, providing energy modeling and consulting to architects and builders who seek to achieve zero energy homes, above-code energy performance and green building certifications.
In addition to a degree in Architecture from The Pennsylvania State University, David is a RESNET Certified Quality Assurance Designee and Home Energy Rater, a LEED for Homes Accredited Professional, a BPI Certified Building Analyst, and a RESNET Green Rater. Prior to launching Populus, David worked as a designer and project manager for a high-end custom furniture and cabinetry shop in Boston, a lead carpenter for a development firm in Wellesley and a project manager at a Boulder architecture firm.
As the Director of Residential Energy Operations at Populus, David has consulted on hundreds of projects throughout Colorado, including over a hundred projects in the City of Boulder and Boulder County, all of which targeted above-code energy performance. He has also consulted on many LEED projects, including single-family, multi-family and light commercial buildings.
As an expert on residential energy efficiency, David has been engaged by municipalities throughout the West to provide consultation and training to assist in the implementation of performance-based energy codes and energy efficiency programs. David currently serves as an Advisor on the City of Boulder's Climate Action Plan Residential Technical Team and has served as a subject matter expert to USGBC in connection with its LEED for Homes program and as the Chair of the Boulder Green Building Guild's Legislation and Public Policy Committee.
